Bonding with baked goods in West Java

cookie bakingSB“Two reasons, one selfish and the other less so, prompted my Betty Crocker meets Parung moment.  Selfishly, I craved some homemade baked goods. I have few complaints about Indonesian food, but baked goods are not a strong suit here. Most Indonesians don’t have ovens due to the heat and expense, so the only cakes available are usually mass produced, dry and altogether lacking. As for the less selfish reason, I wanted to combine some good old-fashioned girl bonding with some good old-fashioned American eats.”
